Johnstown Bean Company General Manager Dylan Karley says dry bean harvest should start soon with pinto beans leading the way. “We should see pinto beans being sprayed this week before harvest starts next week.” Karley says the different maturities in beans could mean a long-drawn out harvest. The dry bean crop has suffered from lack of rain and will probably come in under average yield. “Some beans don’t have a full pod set and have had heat stress, but some beans are healthy and look good. Overall, I think we’ll have a slightly below average crop.”
