Near Staples, Minnesota, farmer Norm Krause is keeping a close eye on the dry bean crop. The black beans and small red beans planted before Memorial Day got too wet. “We ended up re-planting in a couple of fields where there were some drowned out areas and because the compaction of the ground from the heavy rain, the stand wasn’t as good as it should have been.” The damp conditions are ideal for white mold in dry beans, but Krause hasn’t seen any sings yet. “As far as other diseases, we haven’t noticed any yet, but it’s still a little early.”
