Prospective Planting Report Predicts Lower Dry Bean Acres

According to USDA’s Prospective Plantings Report, growers intend to plant 1.3 million acres of dry edible beans this year. That’s down six percent from the previous year. The planted area is expected to be down in all participating states, except Colorado, Washington and Wyoming. North Dakota farmers are forecast to plant 650,000 acres of dry beans, a decline of two percent from last year’s planted acreage. Minnesota is expected to see 200,000 acres of dry beans, down 17 percent from one year ago. Michigan is also predicted to plant 200,000 acres this year, down five percent from 2021.
