Harvest and Fieldwork Winding Down
November 08, 2018
Harvest is winding down in northeastern, North Dakota. In the Niagara area, farmer Randy Schaley says the edible bean and soybean harvest were a pleasant surprise. "We were very dry during flowering and weren't expecting to harvest this type of crop. Event after the snow and rain, moisture was still on the dry side. I would consider yield and quality in both the soybeans and pinto beans average to slightly above average." Schaley has been able to complete some fall tillage. However, with below freezing temperatures in the forecast, the window for fall fieldwork is shortening. "We've been concentrating on getting tillage done and hoping to get some fertilizer down. Conditions have just been too wet."
